Fences
A fence is the edge of your property, your privacy and — for a lot of families — the dog's boundary.
01Overview
We build fences that hold a line. Posts are set plumb and at proper depth, panels run straight and level, and the gate swings the same way in February that it did in August.
Materials get chosen for the exposure. A shaded side yard that stays damp has different needs than a west-facing run that bakes all afternoon, and both need to survive Bay Area wind and winter rain.
Most of our fence work happens alongside landscaping — a new fence, a retaining wall and planting done as one project so the grades, the posts and the drainage all agree with each other.

Walk the line
We confirm the run, the slope, gate locations and where posts can actually go.

Remove and set
Old fencing comes out, post holes are dug to depth, and posts are set plumb.

Frame and panel
Rails and boards go on with consistent spacing, following the grade cleanly.

Gates and finish
Gates get hung and adjusted, then the fence is stained or sealed if you want it.

How long does a fence take?
A typical residential run is two to four days depending on length, whether old fencing has to come out, and how much the ground slopes.
Can you replace just the broken section?
Yes. If the rest of the run is sound and the posts are solid, replacing a damaged section is a straightforward repair. We'll say so if the remaining posts are near the end of their life.
What about the fence on a shared property line?
Shared fences usually involve a conversation with the neighbor about placement and cost. We'll build to whatever line you've both agreed on and keep the finished side facing the way you want.
Should a new fence be stained?
It helps. Stain slows the drying and graying that Bay Area sun causes, and it's much easier to apply before the fence has weathered.
